Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee left the CGO complex on Thursday by 12 noon after facing hours of interrogation. While he refrained from expressing any resentment over the repeated summoning, party MP Mahua Moitra openly addressed the controversy surrounding Banerjee's interrogation and said, "there are many complaints in the policy committee. A month and a half ago, when the special session was held in the new parliament building, BJP MP Ramesh Biduri insulted the dignity of the parliament. There are many BJP MPs against whom there are complaints. They aren't heard yet."
In a sharp retort to Mahua's commentary, Abhishek defended her right to criticize the government and engage in public discourse, emphasizing the necessity of safeguarding the democratic process. Criticizing the policy committee's recommendation to revoke Mahua's MP post and said, "In the draft of the policy committee's recommendation that came to me, I saw that it has been asked to investigate whether there is anything against Mahua. It has been said that an investigation should be done. If there is nothing, then how did he recommend the expulsion? Mahua's own fight , deserves to fight. They have been calling me for four years, interrogating me. If they don't get anything in one case, they name me in another case. That's what they do. It's nothing but revenge. Common people understand everything."
Emphasizing his own experiences with the authorities, Abhishek underscored the lack of evidence presented against him in court despite repeated summonses by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Asserting his commitment to transparency, he reiterated his willingness to cooperate with the ongoing investigations, emphasizing his lack of concealment or wrongdoing in the matter.
